Childhood Friends

Childhood Friends

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

Now a father of my own; I see him bright laughing still.

"

 start

As dawn broke bright on my soul

Gifting the small child in me

Was the warmth and perfection

In all wonders I could see

One day my path crossed a boy

This child of kind persuasion

We became the best of friends

I still think of him on occasion

He was dirt covered and black

From coalmines where he would play

We would smile each time we met

Then play tag all night and day

He'd offered me an apple

We each took but half not whole

For it cheap at half the price

To make friends of this new soul

Now a father of my own

I see him bright laughing still

That smile from my sweet childhood

Running happy down the hill

Tate

This is a moving piece of poetic art, Tate. All of your work strikes me as one who has come to understand that he has made many mistakes in life. Taken too many things, loved ones for granted. And rather than sit back basking in sorrow over all that has past, and can't be undone you do as any wise and intelligent man would. Look back on your mistakes to see just where the errors were made. Trying to take a positive away from the experience. And then trying to pass the knowledge you have gained onto others, so that they hopefully won't make the same errors. Only intelligent people learn from their mistakes, not allowing them to weigh them down. Life is but a learning block. We walk it everyday...
Another deep meaning, and most touching poem, Tate. Magnificent!

The acceptance of someone based not on looks, but on character. The willingness to share with another in friendship, asking nothing but a smile in return. We did not realize how valuable those days were, nor how we would look back as adults and long to run one more time in innocence with that childhood friend.
What delight we feel when witnessing our own children doing those same wonderous yet simple things that brought so much pleasure. As usual your pen does not disappoint the reader. Outstanding work of word artistry.

Wonderful to see that you can tap into your inner child while sharing your maturity.

Tate you so remind me of one from long ago. From a time when all things were good, and simple and we all felt the safness all around us.. Your reads touch me in such a way that I can't even bring to words.. You are masterful at these type of writes. From them alone I can tell you are a wonderful man, father and person.. It shows through the words you bring forth. Your love of writing what is so missing in today's society and words, including mine, compassion for the yester-year.. Oh how I love it so!

Was the child your former self? And was the apple life, with the child and the adult each getting a bite of it? You make me think of my former child ... and of my own children.
