Old Oak

Old Oak

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

Hard the road that trekked our life.

"

1500 yr old Oak

The sun sinks low in the sky

while the moon slowly rises

Dreams this way linger long

for tomorrow-in all its guises

I look back longing my days

just to find where I fell last

How can we see the future

who don't remember our past

Hard the road we trekked in life

living well as some had done

Youth hides the tears in shadow

paths shown by the ageless sun

I once held life's greatest joy

futures road lie before me

All that was or ever been

blessed as the tall Oak tree

Hope, my shoulder to the wind

muscles gleamed in the noon sun

Strong was my back that carried

the hopes that you were the one

Tate

I felt you looking towards the future..reflecting on the past...reminiscing in the moment. I liked the title and the picture too...so telling. The Old Oak is said to be wise....it's limbs providing an umbrella to life's storms...the bark over time sluffs away like our own skin....yet it grows new bark...like a rebirth of sorts. The shade it provides is always so forgiving from the harsh glare of the sun. If only we could carry that old oak tree around with us every where we went. Maybe then we wouldn't feel so vulnerable.

I once held life's greatest joy

futures road lie before me

All that was or ever been

blessed as the tall Oak tree

A tree that lives to be old..like us mortals is truly blessed.
"Age is a reward...not a right."

I really like the imagry in this one. I always loved the idea of a crossroads, and I envisoned the path in this. The ending is, of course, amazing. Sums up everything perfectly.

Really really nice write.

I am glad you submitted this to "Dream"....a very worthy
entry indeed. Beautifully written! ~ Helena

P.S. I was going to quote another stanza that stood out for me, but
frankly could not choose. All were brilliant! ~ Helena

The sun sinks low in the sky;
While the moon slowly rises.
Dreams this way linger long;
For tomorrow-in all it's guises.

My favorite stanza...another excellent job!

Never sure exactly what tomorrow will bring and how it will be presented to us. Longingly looking back at the yesterdays that slipped past us. Wondering if we could have corrected something or been a little stronger. Needing to remember so that the same mistakes are not repeated. Presenting a facade of a strong presence. The hidden tears of youth have left the crevices of time down the cheeks where they once freely flowed in private. During this youth the body was strong and virile as the mighty oak. Not afraid to labor and love freely. All the while dreaming of the one that you desired and praying that it be reciprocated. Beautifully written with a "soft" vibrance that creates a vision of warmth and self knowledge. Your pen served well on this poetic work.

It's always nice to find rhymed and metered poetry that isn't forced. The 2nd and 4th stanzas are particularly good in this regard. Good writing, as are the others of yours that I've stopped by to read.

Well, I hope you are in print as your poetry is refined. This took me on a journey that was kind of vague which left a lot of questions. That's not a bad thing as it can apply to any ones life. The ending was not where I thought you were going. Kudos on another awesome write!
