There was a time when my heart was cold as ice. Long before I remarried and had recovered my life. But I found bitterness too hard a hard pill to swallow. Thankfully time marched on and the better angel of my nature took control of my heart leading me to happiness again. When I first wrote this poem I was so deeply distressed. That day I decided to make of my life something new. Tonight while thinking on those days I went through my thousands of pictures and gave my exwife those that I thought she should have. A peace offering I suppose. Though after a few drinks I have to admit the song from Iris Dement had me laughin so hard. That because it is not human nature to let go pain and grant forgiveness. However I shall try not to dwell on past misery. I am trying very hard to let go the hard thoughts and swim in the river of forgiveness and grace. To those few people whom I loved and who dared to love me.
Thank you!
By the way just imagine the genders are reversed in the song above.

Nice work it is always in good nature to let out a peace offering as such. You did well by doing so. I can tell you that one of my ex-friends had a fall out in the later months of 2012 and Ive tried to come to terms with the whole bit and I have in a sense. But I find that I cant be his friend again even though I offered peace after all of this there are still some people that you cant be around. So i shut him out and pushed away. I can at least say that I really tried. Well done Tate.

I like what you say about forgiveness. It is a gift to our own heart, but it is never free... Someone always pays. Who are you going to stick the "tab" with?
Great write Tate!
Love the folk music too.

A very understandable position most all of us can certainly relate with here, Tate. Hard to pick up and go on. Hard to forget and forgive. But, doable. Excellent write.

It's a timing thing. One day you'll realize, "Wow, it's gone. I didn't even notice."
Nicely written, picking up the pieces and putting one's self back togther again to move on to the next grand adventure in love. Casting out the demons, allowing them to escape through the cracks of the broken heart, then sealing it back again once they are gone.
Good job.

I love this song and Iris Dement. I try not to dwell on disappointment..life is too short. I just try to be happy the best I can on my own. I'm all I got so if I aint happy I can't blame nobody but me. I find joy in small things though...like this song. "God May Forgive You (But I Won't)"

Jeeeeeewiiiiizzzzz. Amazing. We need more Tate Morgans in the world, that's for sure! Compassion and poetry are like mornings and sunrise, they just fit perfectly together. Reading this is not only inspiring but it inspires action. Truly, truly great.
Tate your writings have amazing compassion in them and this is no exception. My partner has a saying, 'first, do no harm'' this reminds me of that and is a great philosophy for a life that helps the human race exist.
