There was a time when my heart was cold as ice. Long before I remarried and had recovered my life. But I found bitterness too hard a hard pill to swallow. Thankfully time marched on and the better angel of my nature took control of my heart leading me to happiness again. When I first wrote this poem I was so deeply distressed. That day I decided to make of my life something new. Tonight while thinking on those days I went through my thousands of pictures and gave my exwife those that I thought she should have. A peace offering I suppose. Though after a few drinks I have to admit the song from Iris Dement had me laughin so hard. That because it is not human nature to let go pain and grant forgiveness. However I shall try not to dwell on past misery. I am trying very hard to let go the hard thoughts and swim in the river of forgiveness and grace. To those few people whom I loved and who dared to love me.
Thank you!
By the way just imagine the genders are reversed in the song above.

I think you could write an excellent book about your life---just your poems, as well as thought out authors notes are so insightful and in a way therapeutic, not only for you, but us readers--taking you inside your life---learning and growing from one another through writing, poetry, and our lives in general is really a great blessing

I thank you i am a contradiction for sure. part good part not hopefully the good will win out
True forgiveness sometimes takes a while..but to make it into Heaven..we have to forgive and forget just as God does for us..Nice but sad Tate....Kathie
Another great poem, Tate! Really like how you are wandering away from the lands of the unwanted and entering the city of goodness. Your words are strong as always.
Keep it up!

Tate, you deliver such heart warming writes. It's like looking into a mirror that you have crafted and opened up your heart that we may see. that feeling of wondering if we shall love again is like a storm in the night, we see what it can destroy yet the tranquiltiy of the rain and beauty of nature lull us. Excellent Tate.

But looking back i hold no grudges or I wouldnt have held out the olive branch to her and given her the pictures. But in my heart i dont feel animosity i feel the need to hold back the forgiveness .The reason is simple if i grant it to her she eill see it as a weakness,If you give someone forgiveness that thinks they arent responsible for their actions they see it as an insult as if you are blaming them for what they dids. i know it is messed up but it is the way itis. What should be a gift becomes a burden then. So grant it to those who contritely ask for it . No one else

Exactly! I totally understand what your saying. I've been down that road many times.
I really liked this. I felt all the emotions through it. "I'll relight the candle
that made my heart shine" was my favorite phrase, I just really liked it.
