Memory

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

What need have I for coins of Gold

"

Daughter Aris and I

The world has riches oh so rare

but shares them only with a few

What I love is worth so much more

         they are recollections of you

I need so few of this world's goods

having all your thoughts, ways and deeds

They lift my soul to the heavens

where I plant love's garden of seeds

Through your eyes I have seen wonders

so numerous I can't count

But oh such beauty none the less

before God I could not recount

What need have I for coins of gold

they can't buy what my eyes can see

My treasures lie within your smiles

stamped in the mint of memory

Dear Lord, this was so beautiful I swear it touched my soul. Every line is like a burst of overwhelming beauty the not only encourages but pushes and tugs at the reader to read on and crave more. Honestly, I was breathless by the end of it, my eyes were absorbed by each word as was the rest of being, reading this was an experience I wouldn't mind having a few hundred times more. Thank you for sharing.

'I need so few of this world's goods' ... love it. This is the philosophy we all need to live by...all of us. Of course all the fat cat capitalist b******s will hate you and the rest of us who think the same as you, because they can't turn a dollar, euro, yen, from this philosophy. But if we are to survive as a species your philosophy and not the capitalist win-succeed-win-succeed-kick-a*s-win-succeed-win-success-wealth-eat-the-weak attitude is the way. Gentleness in a man is all.

Tate, those are great candid shots of your kids. I like the one of your son. That is a really good picture. You can crop that down a bit and showcase it as an 8x10, matted and framed. The photographer has a good eye.

I love the story and the sentiment. It is very heartfelt. The meter and rhythm throw me though. It does not have a structured feel to it.

The music is too context high for me but probably touches you emotionally to the poem, the moment, and your kids. In broaders appeal, find those things that move you that may move someone else. Find the point of commonality and express through that. You will have people returning to your peotry often when you do.

Thanks for sharing this. I can tell it is close to you.

This truly was a beautiful piece :) I think, though, that the flow of it was a bit interrupted in a few places. 'So numerous I can't count', could be cannot count to help fix a little of that. But, leaving out my little nit-picking, it really is heart warming to read the love you have for your children, and how they are your life's treasure :) The ending stanza is my favorite. Thank you for sharing!
