Songs Of Youth.

Songs Of Youth.

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

Sadly Nicki Milligan my wife's mother passed away without event Friday February 2nd 2018

"

      Nicki and Harold Milligan

           Parents of my wife Becky

Grace and Eloquence knew you by name

playing together while you were young

The sweet smell of the summer breeze

lessons learned as you sung

Songs of the youth you once lived

white cloth flowing in the breeze

Wheat colored hair whisked in the wind

racing across fields with youthful ease

Think ye oh back upon those days

fondly remembering as we were

Cherished memories that we all save

another tomorrow of that we were sure

When life came in with the seasons

the cheering laughter of a friend

Secrets we all knew and saved

who would think it to ever end

Life has that way of fooling us

especially when we're young

Always promising another day

forever-another song to be sung

But like all great things we enjoy

the bill one day comes due

And as your friends each pass away

you wonder if next may be you

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
I need not say what this is about. We all know don't we? Go see your parents and grandparents.
Life's time waits on none of us.
It masters fate with earnest callous.
Caring for none in favored mercy.
Helping not whom it shows malice.

They wont be here when you find the time to visit.
Do it while you are thinking of it.
There is no regret like that dealt to the one who wasn't there when needed.

Very heartfelt and sentimental. It makes me appreciate every moment I can spend with my wise elders.

I like this and with a little work here and there you can make it much better. The old English feel gets lost at times, but over all a good work.

This is wonderfully done. Why is it when we are young we want to grown up and why when we are old we want to young? I love the fourth stanza in this poem. This poem's flow is splendid. It is always easy to read your work. It always has a relaxed easy flow and feel to it. Another thought provoking lovely piece.

Nicely done version of aging and the obligatory look back on those early days of youth. Done with your usual flair for rhyme and meter. There is a change in person (and maybe back again later) in stanza three. That's OK, it makes sense to shift from you to we in this circumstance. The change back is more abrupt in the closing stanza... I wonder whether anything could be done about this (or needs to be done). Where the issue is pertinent, however, is the fifth stanza: especially when were young. Should this be 'especially when we/you were young' or 'especially when we're young?' One way or the other the 'were' stands out. There is an effective use of a dash in that stanza but with the font I can't tell whether it's 'forever-another...' or 'forever - another...' Good writing as usual.

Really liked this poem. It's kind of melancholy and a bit chilling at the end when we must face the fact we won't live forever. Thoughts we don't have when we are young and healthy but come with time. Enjoy life while we can, if we can, but at least try. Nice job.

This was a very heartfelt poem, and a very true lesson we must live our lives to the fullest and appreciate those who have gone before us. Well done!
