Songs Of Youth.

Songs Of Youth.

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

Sadly Nicki Milligan my wife's mother passed away without event Friday February 2nd 2018

"

      Nicki and Harold Milligan

           Parents of my wife Becky

Grace and Eloquence knew you by name

playing together while you were young

The sweet smell of the summer breeze

lessons learned as you sung

Songs of the youth you once lived

white cloth flowing in the breeze

Wheat colored hair whisked in the wind

racing across fields with youthful ease

Think ye oh back upon those days

fondly remembering as we were

Cherished memories that we all save

another tomorrow of that we were sure

When life came in with the seasons

the cheering laughter of a friend

Secrets we all knew and saved

who would think it to ever end

Life has that way of fooling us

especially when we're young

Always promising another day

forever-another song to be sung

But like all great things we enjoy

the bill one day comes due

And as your friends each pass away

you wonder if next may be you

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
I need not say what this is about. We all know don't we? Go see your parents and grandparents.
Life's time waits on none of us.
It masters fate with earnest callous.
Caring for none in favored mercy.
Helping not whom it shows malice.

They wont be here when you find the time to visit.
Do it while you are thinking of it.
There is no regret like that dealt to the one who wasn't there when needed.

The sense of grand awareness comes full circle when pondering the greater scope
of what life is- eternally. What happens when the physical body passes away?
What becomes of sorrow for those we grieve as time passes? Such experiences
become understanding who we are individually and as a society. And how much
of the bigger picture a person able to grasp is the thing between the great
nothing and enlightenment. Excellent poem. I thoroughly enjoyed the wisdom.

It's like you're reminiscing , yet you have a cautious air.
Of freedom ad carelessness wasted on the youth (yes it's a cliche but, oh so very apt don't you think?) And maybe this poem realizes the importance of friendships eh?

It's a marvelous write. Light yet it delivers a message with gravity. Expertly done.

Thanks for sharing

I love this! What a wonderful expression of a life shared with someone special.
My dad recently passed away and him and mom was married over 55 yrs. Mom and I held his hand as he took his last breath and she remembered that he promised to dance with her when he was 80yrs old but dad died at 76yrs.
Mom is now 76yrs old and so many are passing away. I hold on to her so tightly because I don’t want her to be next. This poem makes me wonder if she thinks or wants to be next. Yet the good memories and stories that she shares with me bring to life their youth and fun and promises made.
Thanks for this great, vivid and moving piece of writing.

Terribly sad but true. I don't want to think about getting older and having to sit around and watch those around me go. When you're young you think you have all the time in the world, but like you said:
"But like all great things we enjoy
the bill one day comes due"
It really made me think of my grandmother all her friends have since passed and my grandfather did as well she doesn't have anyone left other than her children and grandchildren and I can't imagine how that most feel. People who have always been there for you suddenly no longer are. Another wonderful piece.

This makes me think so deeply, yet the language used is not depressing or dramatic.
This write is truly magical. Im thinking about the time i used to spend with my dad, and the meaningless things i did like sitting in my room or playing baseball outside when i should have spent it with him. I didnt know then what i know now, i didnt know that time would be cut short. You cant get time back, this makes me think about how time is precious. Even now all of the things i waste that preciouse time on. You really are a philosopher and a poet mixed into one.

This reminds me of the movie 'The Notebook' - with the passing of time and trying to recall those important moments along the way even if our minds fail to grasp them anymore. A very romantic write indeed.

Ach, no escaping it, life is a tragedy. Up until the age of say 39 all is more or less well. But after that, despite what any lunatic delusionist says, it is a case of, at best, managing decline. It is hard to see the point of a great many lives after a certain point. Yet we all cling on for dear life, costing the declining proportion of younger taxpayers dear. Italy's population is, I believe more or less in reverse leaving millions of elderly. I gather immigration is the solution for Europe, import youth. But most people really don't want the likes of Turkey joining because of the cultural fissures. Ach, age, age! Euthanasia will probably be more widely available in a decade or two. Switzerland and Holland lead the way.
