Songs Of Youth.

Songs Of Youth.

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

Sadly Nicki Milligan my wife's mother passed away without event Friday February 2nd 2018

"

      Nicki and Harold Milligan

           Parents of my wife Becky

Grace and Eloquence knew you by name

playing together while you were young

The sweet smell of the summer breeze

lessons learned as you sung

Songs of the youth you once lived

white cloth flowing in the breeze

Wheat colored hair whisked in the wind

racing across fields with youthful ease

Think ye oh back upon those days

fondly remembering as we were

Cherished memories that we all save

another tomorrow of that we were sure

When life came in with the seasons

the cheering laughter of a friend

Secrets we all knew and saved

who would think it to ever end

Life has that way of fooling us

especially when we're young

Always promising another day

forever-another song to be sung

But like all great things we enjoy

the bill one day comes due

And as your friends each pass away

you wonder if next may be you

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
I need not say what this is about. We all know don't we? Go see your parents and grandparents.
Life's time waits on none of us.
It masters fate with earnest callous.
Caring for none in favored mercy.
Helping not whom it shows malice.

They wont be here when you find the time to visit.
Do it while you are thinking of it.
There is no regret like that dealt to the one who wasn't there when needed.

As we each pass thru the seasons of our lives, we tend to see only our own travels....
However, there does come a time when our thoughts return to our elders, to honor and respect them..
Sage advice, Tate. Well done.

Its a wonderful reflection of youth, Tate, one of the first I think you have quite honestly come to represent about yourself. And yet while you rediscover the experience, there's a tinge of melancholy about leading that experience on to something even greater. Naughty boy!

aw how cute was that at the beginning. especially loved the second stanza. A great write ended with a touch of realism and the inevitable winding down that faces us all. loved the picture, italics and colour. Sad to say I have no parents or grandparent to visit. never saw any of my grandparents. had a great great dad who died a long time ago. and of course an irreplaceable mum who died when i was ten. oops suddenly this as all become about me. Sorry. Nice write Tate.

Hi Tate good to see a read request from you. I loved the beginning of this as it has a whimsical, devil may care tone but as it moves to the end it falls morbid. Just like life itself for some. Nice piece.

....and visit while you are still able to. We wait and wait and put off and then when we finally have time, we're too sick, or crippled with arthritis, or blind. This is profound, beautifully written verse, carrying wisdom without preaching. Life really is to be lived in the moment, and it has taken me 60+ years to figure it out.
