Such a wonderfully lovely trip down memory lane; I feel wistful and light. When I read your work it is always easy (If you will pardon the pun) like Sunday morning. The picture is so evocative and well the perfect topping is the Van Morrison. Such a delight!
Tate, this is really a sweet poem and I agree totally..how kids can stay inside with electronic games and not be outside enjoying tag, bikes, softball, and all other play things beats me..I never wanted to be stuck inside..Nice write I loved it..Katihe
I walk around everyday wondering why I ever had to grow up. I was so much more useful as a child, with innocent notions of love, friendships, religion, etc. Getting old is a curse I've inherited without want. But, like this poem reminds me, there is a quiet time in twilight hours where we hear "echoes of games we use to play." The line "I wonder if to them I'm old..." is very interesting and conjures images of an older me meeting the younger me surrounded by all "those friends I left behind..." and being too old to play, too old to chase the girls, too old to share in whispered secrets. I really like this poem. The second stanza was a little hard to understand, but nonetheless, a very good piece. Thank you for sending me a read request.
There's so much childishness in adult life than I would have expected, and that's not a bad thing. That's what this poem makes me think of, and why I thank you for writing it.
Indeed, I often dream of the past, my childhood and of the friends I have lost track of. Very nicely done here Tate. You awaken those thoughts inside of me.
Yesterdays dreams and remembrances of youth. You composed a lovely poem representing such memories. I so agree, memories of childhood conjure multilple images of what was, what now is, and what could have been. We are who we are today due to our youthful days. I really enjoyed this Tate. It reminds me that even throughout the storms of life there they were also peppered with joys.
