Childhood Nights

Childhood Nights

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

How sweet our former lives.

"

me Tony Kernie

Me on the left Tony in the middle and Kerny on the right

In dreams of my sweet former life

 with the wonders childhood poses

I find those friends I left behind

still so young and fresh like roses

I wonder if to them I'm old

when they think upon occasion

Do they wonder as, I do

of that inner child's persuasion

To me they are the cherished ones

memories of lost summer nights

When we played hide and seek till dark

enriched by all life's smells and sights

In dreams they live on as before

echoes of games we use to play

I start each night as they ended

with the dreams from yesterday

It is odd, I suppose, that I am reading this today - it is quite fitting as thoughts like this have been eating at mind all day... memories of faces and moments from the past...

"To them I wonder, do I seem old?
When they think of me on occasion.
Do they wonder as I, what became,
of the child of so sweet persuasion?

_______________________________

To me they are the cherished ones.
Memories of sweet kind summer nights.
When we played hide and seek till dark.
Enriched by all life's smells and sights."

I love those stanzas. - beautiful poem.

The past seem sweeter and better. Some days were pretty damn hard back when I was young and trying to figure the world out. I like the poem. I would like to be clean and innocence in mind again. A excellent poem.

Very nice poem on wonderful childhood memories. Very well done.

This is a very nice poem, kind to the ear and to the mind. I struggled with the meaning of the second line - I think it would be easier on the mind to invert it a bit (without affeting the meter): to: the darkend one I live in closes. The eighth line is a bit cumbersome: read 'of so sweet persuasion' in isolation and you may see what I mean. I don't know why the closing lines revert to we, when the whole poem has been spoken from the perspective of 'I.' Wouldn't hurt to use 'I' in place of 'we' and see how it looks. Wonderful writing otherwise. I like the theme and the approach taken to it.

I am turning 30 this year and it is bothering me. I feel that those childhood memories are now just that memories, which pains me. Great work!
