I have gone back deep into your archives Ted, from curiosity as much as anything, in light of your success as a published poet. This particular poem struck a chord in me, as I too am at the age where memories and self seem to be intersecting with great frequency. I really enjoyed my read. The opening stanza's "I find those friends I left behind" is an extremely arresting one, especially when followed by the next verse's haunting question of "do they wonder, as I do." And then the poem is so grandly completed with its circular conclusion back to the opening line.
Your craftsmanship is apparent throughout. I have been greatly rewarded for my visit.
thanks

'Childhood Nights'
Tate,
This was really picturesque. It's neat to take in collection of words and be able to identify or to imagine what is being said. If a person can do this then the next step is possible which is to identify or empathise. I sound myself imagingin myself as a young adult and throughout my youth and adolescence. If is a little different for a girl I think. The picture you posted appears to be three junior high aged young guys- yourself and two friends. You all look comfortable together and that is so nice! Loved going down my own memory lane as I read.
Blessings,
Kathy

Thank you Kathy yes we are still friends and we were comfortable
Lovely. Our childhood is really so important, the formation of our adult selves. Your well structured poem tells in its simplicity of 'that inner child's persuasion'. Luckily most of us remember the 'good' things of our past. I think it is Nature's way to hide the bad things, though of course this can cause trouble for some, later on. But I love the lines 'In dreams they live on as before, echoes of games we used to play.' And I love the photo of you and your friends. Is that the Beatles haircut?

A remembrance piece that the reader can connect to and find themselves recalling the magical age of their child years. A glimmering read, full of wondrous statements.
Here is a stanza from my unpublished poem, which also is on childhood.
"Those are the days which now I miss
But, I now only can reminisce
I am sad that they are now gone,
I am sad that they are now gone"
Really, childhood is the golden period of our life. After it, notwithstanding how much good life we have we always will miss our childhood.
I won't ever forget this poem and especially this stanza
"To me they are the cherished ones
memories of lost summer nights
When we played hide and seek till dark
enriched by all life's smells and sights"
Thanks for sharing this.
