Heart of a Nation

Heart of a Nation

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

The well spent life will always beckon from the winds of change a call for home.

"
sage wisdom
"The value of a man lies not in what he owns but in what he gives to others."

On humble fare though he may dine

soft light of a candles flame

Walks with a sense of purpose and time

upon his soul there is no claim

A man treads light on honest poverty

no coward nor gentleman's slave

Gives his love to the poor of heart

stands fast in the face of the grave

Bearing for her life's burdens

soothes the children of their tears

Is the rock all others break upon

leaves fond memory of his years

He knows the value of free will

as honesty will rule his heart

Owns pride born of forgiveness

to the fallen grants a new start

Give the fools their silk and wine

their dishonest pretense of gentry

Only welcome of a good mans door

will permit a monarchs entry

He knows this, as his fellows do

from every  field and station

One need not be a worshiped lord

to be master of God's creation

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
As in the times of the ancient mariner we all hear the call of sirens that gesture us to sail home. Continuity of purpose flows from the wellspring of our lives. In the end we all find we are drawn inexorably home, to the hearth from around which we told our tales of long ago and spun our yarns of a life well lived. The well spent life will always beckon from the winds of change a call for home.

As I dive off into this review comment, please allow me to share that my personal political views are not those of today's Democratic Party, as the last Democrat I supported and loved was John Fitzgerald Kenneday ... This shared, every once in a great while one can happen upon a truly good man in any political party, though their views may differ from ours ... This is a grand tribute to the man Bernie Sanders, whom I view as a good person and a fine man, though I do not share his political viewpoints ... I am unlikely to vote Democratic in the fall elections, but I would choose Sanders any day over a lying, two faced, euphemism spouting, Hilary Clinton, though I have no problem with a woman of character and honesty running for President of these United States of America ... That's the problem, she has no character to lean upon, and seeks only the sympathy of voters on the basis of her sex, rather than her integrity ... Sanders is a man of integrity, no doubt ... Excellent write ...

Great writing all in all. Your admiration for the man comes through loud and clear (and indeed I think there are many admirable things about him). Very well said.

Just a few small things:
In line 2 candles should be candle's
The sudden reference to "her" in stanza 3 is a little confusing; maybe consider rewording?
Stanza 5, line 1: They're s/b their
Only welcome of a good mans door will permit a monarchs entry: s/b man's and monarch's.
