Measured,Weighed

Measured,Weighed

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

If a man needs rewarded in the end for deeds he should do by conscience there is something wrong with him.

"
Christmas 2012
Becky and I

Neither birth, nor death, escape pain

it starts with the babe's cry

Men wax and wane, throughout their reign

in the end just to die

Through heat and cold we push onward

like Lemmings to the sea

Ever shore-ward, ever nor-ward

and on to victory

The weeks pass by without delay

and with them countless tears

As most I'd say, lament the day

that their months turned to years

What makes man something to behold

is not the after-life

It's in the gold, of stories told

and arms of the good wife

We need no promise from above

to tell us we'll be paid

By joys hereof, through souls we love

is man then measured weighed

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
It has always bothered me the idea of being paid in the end for our good deeds that is. If a man needs rewarded in the end for deeds he should do by conscience there is something wrong with him. Kindness is it's own reward. Kindness is the language the deaf can hear and the blind can see.

As always, Tate, you ponder the imponderable. I don't suppose we'll ever know the answer to your questioning the rights or wrongs of performing good deeds. Suffice it to say that good deeds usually bring about positive results, and these should be reflected in our Karma. Better that than the destructive urges now being played out in the middle east, anyway. And if there is nothing after death, we lose nothing by being magnanimous.

Absolutely stunning, Tate. I have forgotten how you can strum at my heartstrings with the majesty of your words. I feel humbled just visiting your page. I, too, believe kindness is a reward in itself. No resentment found when giving your love and guidance to another. People should never have expectations for the good deeds they do, not when something is meant to be given from the heart. To expect a reward destroys what has been supposedly freely offered. One should never try taking back what they give. I love this poem. Just tweaked at my heart. Thank you so much for inviting me here.

Simple truth, old friend.
Yes, I do believe the kindness is its own reward; there is a joy in helping other that is not priced. But I also believe that both good Karma and bad Karma can be earned.
