It has always bothered me the idea of being paid in the end for our good deeds that is. If a man needs rewarded in the end for deeds he should do by conscience there is something wrong with him. Kindness is it's own reward. Kindness is the language the deaf can hear and the blind can see.

As always, Tate, you ponder the imponderable. I don't suppose we'll ever know the answer to your questioning the rights or wrongs of performing good deeds. Suffice it to say that good deeds usually bring about positive results, and these should be reflected in our Karma. Better that than the destructive urges now being played out in the middle east, anyway. And if there is nothing after death, we lose nothing by being magnanimous.

Beautifully written work as always Tate! This one is especially pleasing as the diction is simple enough to be considered prose but melodic and free flowing enough to be considered music. Excellent write and my new favorite!

Eh I'm managing. Got a job as an EMT now so mostly I'm just working. How about yourself?
This is just splendid. It's a simple truth that, all too often, men struggle their whole lives to realize. You wrapped your gift up nicely and tied it with a bow. Just beautiful!

My father was a man who reaped the joys of a life well lived, as he was living it. While I am a person of faith, I agree that kindness, love, compassion, diligence - these virtues are the reward. A thoughtful poem; enjoyed this, Tate!

You always have a way of lifting us.. as individuals.. as people sharing this world... and you teach us through words and example how to shine... how to raise the world as we rise... for truly we all rise or fall together.. as one... Thank you so much, Tate...

Kindness today is looked at as weakness. I hate that. Do we over-analyze things too much and refuse to let things just wash over us? I don't know. Thanks Tate, you have a style that I admire. Nice to see you can make internal rhymes without them sounding forced. CD

I love this poem and I agree with your author's note. We as humans should not require payment for doing something good.
