It has always bothered me the idea of being paid in the end for our good deeds that is. If a man needs rewarded in the end for deeds he should do by conscience there is something wrong with him. Kindness is it's own reward. Kindness is the language the deaf can hear and the blind can see.

As always, Tate, you ponder the imponderable. I don't suppose we'll ever know the answer to your questioning the rights or wrongs of performing good deeds. Suffice it to say that good deeds usually bring about positive results, and these should be reflected in our Karma. Better that than the destructive urges now being played out in the middle east, anyway. And if there is nothing after death, we lose nothing by being magnanimous.

THIS poem invites reflection on the transient and sometimes painful nature of life, while emphasizing the importance of relationships, personal stories, and the pursuit of joy in finding meaning and purpose. I really enjoyed reading this prose!

:) It was a great pleasure reading this prose. I very much enjoyed it!
You have penned a most beautiful and lovely piece of brutally frank and candid truth!
I am one who does not support, advocate, nor believe in the evidenced existence of any form of Afterlife, though I am not against such said existence if it were to ever prove true in carrying forth our existence of essence beyond that rotting stench of decomposition that is the only true and factual reality our hearts, minds, and senses can witness as that which is commonly called the grave (see my articles, titled: He's Risen, He's Risen -- They Say-- But True Credibility Is ... & ... If The Life Is In The Blood ... as well as, Deception Is A W***e's Face Smiling), I would/will be all for it, and that for every single Human Being who has ever lived upon this Earth, for who am I to judge who is, or is not, worthy of such an After-death reality? ... It is my view that there is no God of Organized Religion, though I do believe there is something out there in the vastness of some place, some where, some how that Man has never met and shall never meet or commune with, and shall forever remain beyond Man's highly overrated significance of I.Q.'s intelligence realm of comprehension ... Thus, each other, as fragile all too mortal flesh and blood Human Beings is all that we have ... We must endeavor to do for one another, care for one another, assist, aid, and save one another lest that day come when Man's Mankind called Humanity finds itself undone and distinctly extinct ...

You and I are on the same page of logic and reason on this particular topic that I believe is essentially important to Man's Mankind as Humanity that is The Human Race: This Life takes precedence over any thoughts, beliefs, or hopes of an Afterlife following death and decomposition, as now is always more important than later, as an after the the fact, rather than facing facts ... To those who are readers of comments before readers of an author's work, I recommend a book written long before we were born, long before I developed by own personal beliefs of conclusions regarding an AfterLife, and the following author came to the same conclusions as you and eye long before either of us were born. He was a Liberal of the 30's, a far different type of Liberal than is considered today, because at that time there was not the state of extremism that exists today, rendering only two corners of extremes: Far Right or Far Left, and so Corlis Lamont was a sound reasoning and logic based Liberal and not a Leftist Extremist by any means. I highly recommend his meticulously researched book, The Illusion of Immortality, available for free downloading in PDF form from this link: https://archive.org/details/in.ernet.dli.2015.222482 ... And available for purchasing @ Amazon.com ... Let's spread the word on the life of any Hereafter ...

I found these two movies to be so fascinating because thinking of the apostles. For instance, they were for the most part illiterate fisherman. They couldn’t write the wrong name let alone a gospel. The gospels are way too similar to of been written by anybody but one man. There is another movie you can probably find it pretty easily called the name of the rose with Sean Connery. It is about the difference between the Benedictines and the Jesuit in the dark ages Monks begin dying at an alarming rate as this one monastery, so they send Sean Connery there as a Jesuit to investigate being more fluid of mind and heart issue. Figures out that all of the dead head red a book by Socrates, I think it was banned by the monastery, so they poison the tips of the pages with Cyanide anyone who licks their finger to move the page, poison themselves and die all this because the head monk
Feared that a book by Socrates, on comedy would teach people to laugh at life and then at God, add to this, the pope who sends inquisitors Bonardo, GUI who, of course, investigates by torture

Tate Morgan,
"Measured, weighed" Ample opportunity in the day to day of life; we all share this gift. Choices, voices- do we listen act? Motivation? Why do we do the acts, speak the words. Are we not accountable? Only to self? If not is the reward knowing we did the best we could with what we had? Send love along while we can. Thought provoking. Blessings, Kathy

Thank you for stopping by Kathy I am touched that you liked it
Fantastic Tate! I really enjoyed this. I can relate, as I've recently, over the past few years have struggled with this seemingly instilled idea that there has to be some reward at the end of everything, that there always has to be a goal to reach, instead of simply, just living in the moment. and have to come to realize, that it's those moments that are the reward, not where we end up. If you haven't read any Alan watts, you may want to consider. He has a brilliantly simplified way of looking at things as such. Anyway... nice write!

I love your well-crafted poem with good rhyme, rhythm, & clear message. I also like your author's note, my sentiments exactly. I'm all about paying it forward. We don't get rewarded in some orderly fashion. We recognize our blessings in every unexpected corner of life. I like the way you've stated the pain of birth & death in the first stanza, as well as the lemmings in the second stanza -- all done with fresh originality. Thanks for sharing.
