Yellow Springs

Yellow Springs

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

You might just see children playing Hide and Seek throughout the street Where "all yee all yee in come free" sings of a melody so sweet

"
yellow springs

In a hollow off the main road

sits a village that time forgot

Where things flow, a little slow

and peace of mind need not be bought

The main street beckons all to see

how life ebbed and flowed in the past

Where smiles abound, the happy sound

of a life not metered nor fast

There you'll find the town Silversmith

making jewelry in a forge

The coffeehouse, echos of Strauss

a trodden path out to the gorge

It is home to the Glen Helen

part of a thousand acre woods

Steering the helm, coin of the realm

are the fruits of the craftsman's goods

There by the Antioch College

we spent a good deal of our youth

Climbing the trees, skinning our knees

among beauty we knew as truth

You might just see children playing

Hide and Seek throughout the street

Where "all yee all yee in come free"

sings of a melody so sweet

So should you find that your bones ache

from the pains of life you endure

Take a stroll, over the knoll

to the little town with the cure

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
What can I say about this village but it is heaven on earth? Here you will think you went back to the 60s. The art fairs and galleries are accented by the ancient architecture. Home to Antioch College and the Glen Helen it echos back to a simpler time. You won't find Target or Walmart. You will see and meet the local artisans. Perhaps you will even find a music festival out on main street. You will never want to leave. For here is where memories and dreams were made and still live.

Great job here Tate. In todays world this town you describe does sound like heaven. I would love to trade the noise of my neighborhood for one you describe here. I'm sure little towns like that still excist in little spots across America. And I'm sure the people who live in them realize how lucky they are.

Thank you Thomas you are right the happiest of times came from those days
I love to hear about small towns like this. I still watch 'the Andy Griffith show' and love it. your poem was very nice and reminded me of old towns with hollowed streets and only a memory left. I loved the rhyme scheme you had all throughout the poem!

I thought villages like this were only found in the Alps, and raised little girls named Heidi. Pastoral, Idyllic, the fountain of everlasting beauty of life. Not so strange that it is nourished by creativity and tradition. Things the fast paced, technological world of today seem to have forgotten and dare I say neglects. Well penned my friend.
