Birth Rights

Birth Rights

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

A look at our certain future!

"

Payton

Granddaughter Payton

Wheat fields wave across the meadow

bright yellow 'neath a sky of blue

Beautiful swaths of sun bleached straw

cut down long before their due

So like the children of our city

colored yellow, red, brown and gold

Living out their lives in dog years

struck down long before they're old

This sickness flows through our land

leaving the helpless and despaired

Where all are made to be thrown out

none are saved or even repaired

When the silent spring finally comes

and all the birds are in a museum

We'll sell our birthright for a song

so children can pay to see them

Then all the beauty will be gone

as our grandchildren run out to play

Not under blue or 'cross the green

but in the trash from yesterday

At the rate we are going we are sadly destined as a race for a dry, dusty, polluted, future. Devoid of beauty, music, children or hope!.

you are by far, one of the most talented writers I have had the pleasure to meet.. I absolutely love this.. I love the picture, the font, color, the message, the flow, the rhythm, the imagery, each carefully selected word.. It feels light and hopeful and yet at the same time like a harsh wake up call.. nice job as always..

This was such a pleasure to read. (Not necessarily the content, but the way in which it was written).

Your very welcome.
What an amazing piece of writing this was. Each end stanza connected you and gave your different views looking at the same theme. The ending was brilliant.

What you have done in this poetry is that, you have portrayed the truth. We are moving towards a world, which will be a victim of our present. We, are in a state of denial. We, know our future, but we still commit crimes against nature.

I have seen, many people who deliver rhetorics, that, they will never use plastic, will not litter, but aftermath they just do the contrary (Including myself).

This beautifully crafted poem by you, is reflecting our ugly truth. If we still do not change, the doom will consume all of us. It will snatch away the priceless future of our future citizens.

I hope that, people become aware of this and help save the nature.

You should come to India.. and tgen I think you will find this poem more fitting. You see crowd everywhere. People from small towns running to big cities and ones from bigger ones running to a smaller country, all dreaming to earn too much money and live in small apartments. Because we know we are not lucky enough like our forefathers who got big bungalows made in city centres. Cities are expanding, at a rate when outskirts of one will merge with the neighbouring other.. and then there will be no place, no place left for a man to conquer. No lands to be reclaimed from sea, no forests to cut down, only a concrete jungle. You sir, by this poem have rekindled our fears and put a question.. is this future worth living for? Are we sacrificing oir present for this?

Tate, I hate to do it, but I have to completely agree with April. You are such a talented writer. You are such a joy to read. You put a lot of thought into each and every line, color, picture, song. You put the whole page together like the work of art it is....and we are the better for it, because we get to sit back and soak it all in. Beautiful job, Tate. I love it. 100/100
