The Midwest

The Midwest

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

Life in the Midwest reminds me of Johnny Cash and "Sunday Morning Coming Down"

"

I was born of the ceaseless plains

with the endless sky above

It was there I learned to wander

it was there I learned to love

Despite where life had taken me

from green grass to black sea foam

I’d cried to each wind filled valley

"will I ever find a home"

Days of life would pass on to years

distant plains rang out a plea

Over the rivers and valleys

where my home had drank of me

The Midwest had been calling me

as it echoed out in song

"I am the land of your fathers

and here is where you belong"

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
For many of the years of my life I wondered why I never felt at home when I traveled far and wide? Then as I aged it came to me. There is a reason birds fly back to where they were born and fish swim thousands of miles to spawn in the rivers they were born from. Who we are is as simple as where we came from. So I came home to start a family and pass that to my own children.

Excellent Tate. I feel the same and I hope to one day return to the hills where I played and was at peace with nature.

The midwest does have a way of calling us back. For me it was the areas close the great lakes. They will always have my heart.

Sounds like a poem in waiting...
Hearing the loud pleas of a place first birthed in fantasy and upon experiencing the place for yourself, you find it to be quite perfectly tuned to each one of your desires, the aspects of the place merging hand-in-hand with aspects of yourself as you make yourself at home, finally, and, most importantly: easily. Well done and well expressed!

Robbie my long lost friend I am happy you came home. Thank you
Home is where your heart is. In my case my full circle was defined by my Dad. I fought him so hard. I never understood him. I swore I'd never make his mistakes. Now an old man, years after my fathers death, I see him in my reflection. I hear his voice out of me. I make the same mistakes he did. I even have some of his mannerisms. I'll never go back to where I was born, because everything about that place is in my DNA.
