For many of the years of my life I wondered why I never felt at home when I traveled far and wide? Then as I aged it came to me. There is a reason birds fly back to where they were born and fish swim thousands of miles to spawn in the rivers they were born from. Who we are is as simple as where we came from. So I came home to start a family and pass that to my own children.

There is something about the place each of us calls home - what you feel for the Midwest is how I feel about the East Coast. While it's great to see other places, our own calls strongly to us... A lovely reminder to appreciate where we come from, Tate.

Tate, this is a great piece of work! I too long for my home- the Cape. Ever since I went there 4 years ago, no place has felt quite the same. I myself have never been to the Midwest, but I've heard it's a beautiful place.
Great ink!
Very heart opening... Reading this feels very soothing and comforting... I can appreciate the love for the Midwest... Ppl try and escape from their past in the beginning, only to appreciate it in the end. A great poem...

let them live and die within a four square block area of concrete if they want to
Well first off, great album and a great song from it...but the poem, it opened so many doors for me...I've not had the opportunity to step outside of my country for a multitude of reasons, but I have spent long stretches of time away from my small town in what I can only refer to as an experiment now...I tried to become someone else, and I thought a city could do that for me...realizing that nobody knew me, I thought I could shield my introverted self, come out of the shell, and pass myself off as an outgoing and charismatic person...eventually I gave up on it and returned to my roots for good...thankfully you can go home again...in light of all that, this is a piece that truly spoke to me and resonated with me...from a purely visual standpoint, I feel like I've learned something I didn't know before...I had an idea of the Midwest landscape, but you've truly brought it to life here, and I do feel like I've been there...I do enjoy the soulfulness and introspection in your words.

I am often accused of living a fantasy life in Mayberry and maybe i do. I grew up in little towns of the midwest bailing hay swimming in the quarries lakes and creeks. In towns so small you could name almost every resident. In those days the worst thing was having to come in when the street lights came on.Now it has gone 180 as the worst seems to be having to go outside. Sad i think that kids never climb trees or ford streams anymore They ride the asphalt highway everywhere and schedule play dates across town
