Author's Note

As young man my first true love was Julie Oettle. As a young man my emotions were able to rule me and the tumultuous times I had were adventures. Julie and I broke up when she started dating another man. She claimed she didn't believe that I was true to her however I had been. Years later I ran into her by accident in Henderson Kentucky where once our loves had played. Our roles were reversed. I was happily married with a child Tatertot and she was unhappily divorced. That afternoon I spent playing in the pool with her 8 yr old son swimming but as evening approached she wanted me to stay. I couldn't break the bond I had in marriage. She said to me "the man I remember would have stayed".To that I was incredulous and told her "You never knew me at all". Perhaps it is true we find fault in others for what we are guilty of ourselves.I hope she found happiness. Her lack of faith in me was disheartening and heartbreaking at the time. I think in the end she saw the error but too late.

Thank you Barb Yes my wife allows me to be friends with all the women who were once in my life.I have a hard fast rule if the phone rings i ask her to answer it I leave my work open so she can read it I insist that anyone who is my friend also be hers and often have her talk to them at length Once i had promised to publish the poems I wrote to Lucy Hamilton of ireland years later i published them and sent the three books to her. She called from ireland crying over them and spoke with my wife for an hour. Lol My wife turns to me and says I see why you loved that one what a beautiful voice.

Well done Tate. Just think of all of the people who do not get the emotions that some of us do. Some years ago, I had written a poem for the person who had invited me to Writers Cafe, I think it's finished after much editing. But I did just write a new one for someone else. And the one I wrote for Carol who was my first love back in 1962 is listed as 'First Love' I'm sure. I'd rate the poem an 8 and the Authors note a 10.
