End of Days, For my father "Eddie Morgan Jr"

End of Days, For my father "Eddie Morgan Jr"

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

I am my father’s son after all. To my father I raise a glass and say "Goodnight Dad thank you for my life"

"

My Father Eddie Morgan Jr and I.

My father died 6/15/15

Both the tears that live in sorrows

along with those born from pain

Echo through the lost tomorrows

that will never come again

For I had closed my heart away

as to hide behind a door

So the longing I'd kept at bay

would trouble my soul no more

With the storms brought by the spring

came the April winds sublime

The children's happy feet now sing

pitter-patter keeping time

I kept the promise to my heart

burning love has kept me warm

I readied for the end in part

with my back turned toward the storm

The sun did set upon his chest

as lost, love cried out in me

"Give him life or give him rest"

was the sound of my hearts plea

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
The night comes when there are fewer days ahead than behind. On that night you realize the folly of your misspent youth was really the joy of your life's adventure. To that I raise a glass and say "Hell Yeah he really lived! Goodnight Dad

oh Tate that sure is one of the best poems I've read as I love the song as well. Your words as usual penetrate the soul. Life is a journey, and we all may go astray, wandering in roads never taken before, or roads that were taken by others yet they seem so unfamiliar as we don't learn from others' experience all the time .... Lost hopes, sorrows and tears moan inside your heart only to awaken some hunger for a ray of light that would sure give you the rebirth feeling. No matter how long we try to hide from love, it sure finds a way to us, without asking for our permission. The wind, the sun, the spring and the storm ... all those words are only an excellent choice for the flow of your feelings that was easily sensed all along your poem ..... sorry it was too long but it sure hit me hard that one. Loved the photo toooo :D

Beautiful, Tate. And sorry for your loss. My parents are gone, too. I know the feeling. There is a void, now, that will never be quite filled. And, in fact, we learn, I think, to respect that void.

All my best wishes.

Hi Tate I can't imagine that your Dad wasn't proud of you. My best regards, Dear Friend!
First let me say, I'm sorry for your loss, which I know must still be quite fresh in your heart. Your poem is a beautiful tribute, altho I can't really say I can see or feel anything about your dad from this poem (just a personal preference, not a criticism of your approach to the topic). The way I read it, stanza 2 prevails. I'm guessing you are keeping a little distance from a full & vivid outpouring of your feelings, by crafting this perfect formal-sounding tribute, with notes of sorrow as well as hope, but definitely not too specific. I apologize if my observations are too harsh, especially considering your loss & the clear fact that this is a perfectly-expressed tribute that us mere mortals only aspire to! (((HUGS)))

Thank you Willard This one is very personal and painful for me
The part that resonated most to me was,

"I'll ready for the end in part,
with my back toward the storm."

Because when our parents die, it really comes home to most of us that we aren't immortal. Thanks for sharing.

well done! top notch ... your language is elevating for me .. in reading and listening to the music i find myself easily placed in a small country church ... with hushed sighs of sorrow and joys .. i think your dad is very very proud of you Tate .. and thank you for the link that brought me here :) so symbolic as i see you and others placing his ashes at the start/finish line ... apparently so much a part of his and your family's lives ... such a beautiful and worthy poem ..

Hi rose thank you so nice to see you back again Losing a father is not an easy thing to take
~I just saw your status message, you have my deepest sympathies Tate. It is never easy to lose a dad, the patriarch of the family. By your words It is clear he was a special guy. But I think that goes without saying. I wish you and your family all the best in this difficult time~
