The Master's Plan

The Master's Plan

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

I am sure it will outlive me standing long after my own time Taking note of my grandchildren lending life both music and rhyme

"

Tates Tree Swing

There is a great tree where we live

It's a comfort to have it near

We pass by it every day

it has stood for many a year

In the last twenty years or so

as I passed the days of my prime

I found that I kept going back

seeking solace time after time

What amounted to years for us

were days in the life of the tree

It stands there stout, towering, firm

be-lying grace that comforts me

I'd lie beneath the canopy

where I would stare up at the sky

Watching the leaves blow in the wind

counting the years as they passed by

So majestic is this old tree

oh the lives that it's watched over

How many loves have come and gone

amongst the leaves amid clover

Yesterday I happened to see

Tate with his girl beneath its arms

Swinging within its warm embrace

while it happily shared its charms

I am sure it will outlive me

standing long after my own time

Looking after my grandchildren

sharing love of music and rhyme

This tree has watched my son grow up

from a small boy to a young man

Here it stands in graceful beauty

a small piece of the Masters plan

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
The years pass us by so quickly. Sometimes I wonder what has happened to them all. However I am blessed with a loving child who has given me so much. I share these memories with all my friends in reverence to the life and love they have marked.

A beautiful look at the past Tate.
I remember such a tree from my chilchood. My family had it declared a landmark to keep it from being cut down, but eventually that will happen anyway. It was so sad when we had to get rid of that property. None us us wanted to give it up, and onon of us were able to keep it.

A most touching and brightly lit piece it that phrase can be used in this context. Your take on standing back on commenting on times lost, times remembered and times you have is something that always strikes me - well done my darling, great read.

very touching write, in spite of the fact that the imbedded music nearly gave me a minor cardiac infarction...i love your poetry tate, but i hate it when people imbed music with a write that comes on automatically...i have a bad ticker..and it makes me jump out of my seat. well penned though...awesome poetry.

Giant trees tend to make us all feel safe and welcome may that always be the case her too.
Another very touching write from you. :)

I will share a tree story with you:
We had a gigantic oak in our front yard. Extremely old. It was constantly rooting it's way into the sewer pipes and caused general house havoc. Due to it's age, it was protected and could not be cut down. Fine by us, we all loved the tree. It was such a beautiful and majestic thing. Practically hid the house behind it's enormous trunk.
The neighbor hated it. He was one of those "rake every leaf up, spotless yard" people. He would be out every night in the fall cussing away about that tree and taking up whatever leaves it had dropped on his lawn that day. He's the reason we knew it couldn't be cut down. He had tried to start a petition to get it removed. Year after year he carried on about it.
Then came the first hurricane to make landfall in that area in 60 years. It soaked the ground so quickly and so thoroughly that the tree couldn't hold. With the strong wind, it fell, roots popping up out of the ground and all. Now it didn't fall backwards, forwards, or side to side.. No, this tree.. I swear here, Tate. This tree fell diagonal to the (upper left if you were facing it from the street) and fell right smack down through the middle of his house. Did absolutely no damage to our house or to anyone else's or anything else. It just demolished his house.
An awful funny coincidence.. Or maybe a trees final revenge. :)
