The Master's Plan

The Master's Plan

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

I am sure it will outlive me standing long after my own time Taking note of my grandchildren lending life both music and rhyme

"

Tates Tree Swing

There is a great tree where we live

It's a comfort to have it near

We pass by it every day

it has stood for many a year

In the last twenty years or so

as I passed the days of my prime

I found that I kept going back

seeking solace time after time

What amounted to years for us

were days in the life of the tree

It stands there stout, towering, firm

be-lying grace that comforts me

I'd lie beneath the canopy

where I would stare up at the sky

Watching the leaves blow in the wind

counting the years as they passed by

So majestic is this old tree

oh the lives that it's watched over

How many loves have come and gone

amongst the leaves amid clover

Yesterday I happened to see

Tate with his girl beneath its arms

Swinging within its warm embrace

while it happily shared its charms

I am sure it will outlive me

standing long after my own time

Looking after my grandchildren

sharing love of music and rhyme

This tree has watched my son grow up

from a small boy to a young man

Here it stands in graceful beauty

a small piece of the Masters plan

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
The years pass us by so quickly. Sometimes I wonder what has happened to them all. However I am blessed with a loving child who has given me so much. I share these memories with all my friends in reverence to the life and love they have marked.

Years go by,we can't do anything about it. People have always been the slaves of time. Not that it's bad or anything. But there are some things that "forever will stay". Love, friendship, tuttoring... Very nice piece,I like it. :)

Hi Danilo Man its nice to hear from you today. Thank you my friend. Drop me a note
Dear Tate my friend

I wanted to come and review some of your latest writing.

As we both know I am far from well at the moment and life is very hard for me to the point of simply not coping at times.

I am however still trying to review as a distraction.

But I am trying hard to make my reviews shorter, partly because I am too brain dead to do anymore and I am not focussing that well.

I could easily go off on one and write you a book on this piece. But instead I am just going to give you my immediate reactions in review numbered as if to give them some sort of order when actually they are just random thoughts. Thing is in starting this I don't know how long it will be. It will just end at the point it ends and I stop typing:

1) Van Morrison (your link) is a Belfast boy like me. I used to listen to him when I was a child and still do. This is one of my favourites.

2) You talk of trees and their longevity compared to humankind. I immediately react to that as I have a huge honour for trees. In my last home (two acres) before I was divorced, I had fifty foot poplars on the border and a koi pond at whose edges a thirty foot willow wept.

Now in another home (1 acre) in Wales, the property I own has a Welsh name. But in English translation it is called 'Land of the Ash Trees'. The property is lost in the country and surrounded by trees.

Owning a tree is at times I feel one of my greatest pleasures in life.

Occasionally in a storm, one of the trees will come down and I mourn its passing.

Every time I look at a tree I wonder what events it has seen in the past before I was born and what it will see again when I am dead.

3) You talk of family. There is always an affectionate edge to all of your writing. It seems to me you are always honouring an old friend or now your family.

That touches me as I have none of those benefits, when I would prefer it were otherwise.

4) In style the rhyme of the second and forth lines works well and as ever with your writing gives it immediate charm and style.

That's all I can manage to say about it at the moment.

As a review:

Too long?

Too short?

I don't know it's my review and what I am able to say today when my head is full of tranquilising mood stabilisers, four times as much as when I had to be hospitalised.

Does that make this review less worthy because my brain is dulled by drugs?

I can't say Tate.

It's just my review and the only one I can do. But my reviews are always from the heart brain dead or not.

I regard you as a close friend Tate Morgan.

There is a flavour to all your writing I admire.

And one of the reasons I admire it, is that it brings into my mind stuff I have never really experienced, the Wild West, friends and family support.

Poetry is poetry.

Self-expression is self-expression.

It is a free good and harmless in the way you write.

So far from harming anyone you could never imagine.

Charmed by this piece of family affection, Tate

Your rather ill friend

Tree's...if only they could talk. They stand witness to our existance. A silent testimony of who and what we are. Their countless rings a representation of minutes..days...and hours that were lived. Beautiful is your story, perfectly penned to capture a priceless moment. Thank you for sharing my friend.
