Daddy's Home

Daddy's Home

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

My days were pained with great laments work and bills had beaten me down I wondered why god let this be the truth of life in my small town

"
My daughter Aris and I

When I was young and dreams abound

no limit to virility

My hopes and dreams had left a sound

of silent, calm, nobility

Nature had blessed my heart with love

so that light would live in my brain

And in that place that I called home

the flicker of love would remain

My days were pained with great laments

work and bills had beaten me down

I wondered why God let this be

the truth of life in my small town

I asked that question of my God

"send me a sign, that I might see"

As little feet echoed the street

cries of "Daddy's Home!" answered me

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
When we are young our own hopes and dreams are the only thing on our minds. Then comes the day when you realize how short and how sweet life truly is. When your child looks at you as a man and smiles with that innocent cried unwavering admiration for what you take for granted. The ability to put a roof over their heads and a song in their heart. I was thinking of my little friend Drake Cooper today. He use to run down the hall screaming "Tates here"!.Then jump in my arms. It reminded me of my own boy when he was that little. And so endeared him to my heart.

For all the fathers whose unsung dreams were just to be a part of their childs life.

Such an emotional write, Tate, I almost teared up - (but don't tell anyone!). Those last two lines really hit home. It's been a long time since my children were that small and dependent on me, but those memories never fade. The best times of our lives.

Thank you My children have been so much fun for me
How I wish my dad was still around, to see his daughter, blossoming before him. For I was, the last person that he spoke to, before his deadly heart attack, Friday, November 13, 1998. He never knew that the truth about my gender. Although, I suspect he knew that I was never comfortable as a male.

yes it will
Your poem has me thinking of my father, my hero in all the important ways. God (or the Universe, or whatever...) sends us those signs when we need them the most. This is truly beautiful.

thank you So glad it made you remember him happiness is the glue of a good life
As a father this certainly hit home. My two drive me round the bend at times, but they are everything. Your poems really have an emotional quality I've not experienced before. Great

Thank you for the last line of the poem and the authors note, as the fathers of quite a few children couldn't give a damn much less a brass razoo about their care on any level.
The poem was a lovely uplifting read about transition on all sorts of growth levels. It also tells me a lot about how and where your nurturing heart space is with your children and your caring of others too. Beautiful.

You have such a deep body of work at the Cafe' that I may not have found it without the Read Request and I am ever so grateful to read and review your works of art in words.
This is such a heart warming and moving piece you have penned here; I waxed misty eyed once again at the tender and soothing train of thought which seemed to motivate this wonderful write.

Made me remember my son when he was little and how much he depended on me. This is what good poetry does stir feelings as your poetry always does. If you have a chance read my Chalk Rainbows it has similiars feelings.
