When we are young our own hopes and dreams are the only thing on our minds. Then comes the day when you realize how short and how sweet life truly is. When your child looks at you as a man and smiles with that innocent cried unwavering admiration for what you take for granted. The ability to put a roof over their heads and a song in their heart. I was thinking of my little friend Drake Cooper today. He use to run down the hall screaming "Tates here"!.Then jump in my arms. It reminded me of my own boy when he was that little. And so endeared him to my heart.
For all the fathers whose unsung dreams were just to be a part of their childs life.

Such an emotional write, Tate, I almost teared up - (but don't tell anyone!). Those last two lines really hit home. It's been a long time since my children were that small and dependent on me, but those memories never fade. The best times of our lives.
I wouldn't trade my time as a father for all the dreams in Heaven, Earth, and Hell combined. But I worry about what kind of world I brought her into. What will happen when I am no longer able to fight for her?
A Father's Love is Eternal. As it should be. And you paint a beautiful picture with your words. I hope, one day, your children will read your words. No greater legacy exists then when our our children inherit our work.

Thank you I keep thinking about the day I walked her down the aisle. What a beautiful sight
Youthful longing is not always an easy thing to get down and not only have it sound authentic, but have it relate to the reader, and parts of their lives, but you have nailed this. Great poem filled with a lot of emotion, something you are great at describing. Nicely done.

Thank you for all those who men whose only dream was to be a part of their childs life
I asked that question of my god
"send me a sign, that I might see"
As down the hall my child then ran
where "daddy's home" then answered me
The love of a child is the reason. Beautiful write, Tate.
