The Moon

The Moon

A Poem by J Mourning

Sitting, waiting, watching
the near full moon glowing
in time as she
rises slowly through
the ocean of twilight-blue.
Glimpsing only! Shy, she
hides behind the threadbare
trees of cold and lonely
January. Her beauty
is not marred by
unabtainableness but
rather built on it.
Catch her, catch her
if you can. So close
and so far. There, for
all the world to see and
wonder at, and still
though you reach for her
you can not touch her.
Bound by time and space to
tease the mortals through
their weary lives. To know what it
is to be beauty, when all
you are is but this:
A dead rock reflecting the light of others.

This is simply awsome! I don't have any other word for it. The starting and the theme of the poem is a object that is used by many poets: namely, "the moon". But as your peice progresses, it matures and ends in an unbelievable way mate! This is great and very deep too. The simplicity of the poem can never be taken in by one read; though it is much more deeper than that it seems. A great work, and I thank Kristin for sending a read request to I got to read this awsome peice! Keep up the good work! ~KA~

This was extremely well said, J. The moonlight reveals so much...our lives, our hopes, our aspirations, our affection for love, and reflects our souls. And as time goes by, the moon's light becomes brighter and brighter; showing us that it still has power to light up our night with more energy than ever before. Brilliant write!

Hello J.
I loved the way you took me to wonderments (is it a woman? A season?) & then you gave a superb descriptive final verse that I totally didn't expect!
Wonderful poetic express

wow. this was pretty stellar. =] i love how you capture the beauty of the moon, and throw a blunt rock at the end. its actually kinda deep. the whole idea of no matter how beautiful someone or something can be, it can [but not always] just simply thrive off of the radiance of others...

the only thing wrong i found was...
trees of cold and loney
lonely...

=]
