I Do

I Do

A Poem by areawakening

I wonder often if you ever realized

early the next day

when the dawn found the front lawn still covered with dew

and the fermented lipstick stains were wiped away

as a heavy foot built a bridge good for burning

or perhaps weeks later

as bottles full of liquid crystal display

drifted ashore islands where no islands should be

vibrations all too easily silenced in the sand

or perhaps years later

when a request made from a firing position

to put down your weapons and surrender

was answered with a white flag

I wonder often if you ever realized

you left me standing at the windows.

The vagueness. Ah. This is beautiful too.

"Drifted ashore islands where islands should not be" is definitely the stand alone line for me.
