A tornado that calms you as it draws closer You pray it spin on Strongly Inescapably Madly Something in its chaos You will never understand
It dizzies your head And steadies your heart As winds of different colors consume you
Spiral into me now and never set me down Level all I've know to the ground I see now destruction is an invitation Welcomed readily by the soul of creation
Wow, what a great analogy for this archetypal seductress! I re-read this a few times to understand the meaning, then I remembered the title and suddenly: "Oh, that makes perfect sense!".^^ I suppose the destruction created by a sort of welcomed tornado would be the perfect natural disaster to parallel a femme fatale with, as it, as you described, 'dizzies the head/ and steadies the heart', creating a chaotic invitation for the many detrimental pleasures she has to offer You (hey, second person! I guess poems use it a lot, now that I think about it^^''). I'm not sure if you've read Dante's Inferno, but the first torture/punishment (aside from Minos' and Limbo) of Hell is for those captivated by the sin of lust. Their souls are tossed about in a, to semi-quote you, a 'strong, inescapable, mad' tornado, so i thought it was interesting both accounts analogize similar themes with the same aspect of nature. I suppose the difference between your poem and Dante's punishment is that You welcome the tornado, giving into its violent destruction with pleasure. Great finishing stanza, and lovely poem overall. Thanks for sharing!
PS- "written over a cup of coffee" The strangest things come to us writers at the strangest times, no?

I decided that perhaps by putting a few minutes aside each day to write short poems or paragraphs would be a great way to get my creative juices flowing, even if I hadn't the faintest idea what I was writing about. Rather than writing out lengthy backgrounds and profiles of the people and places I am creating, I thought it would be interesting to "discover" them through a multitude of shorter works. So, as you noticed from the title, I wrote this with the idea of a female character in mind. I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I hope that years from now I can look back to these little poems and stories and remember when my world and all of it's characters were nothing more than a few lines written over a cup of coffee (or glass of wine, should the situation necessitate)!

And I know what you mean, it is a lovely way to get ready for a creative writing project. I wrote a poem last month with a similar train of thought, though I plunged three of my main characters into it instead of one ^^''. Doing this for characters is great, I tend to do it for all of mine so that they hopefully feel less one-dimensional. Out of curiosity, what material did you write this on? "Over a cup of coffee" always gives me the image of writing poetry on napkins ^^.
I look forward to discovering more of them...hopefully...if you continue to post said shorter works--I've run out of ML pieces to read as of now! : )

This is definitely connected to the post in the Fantasy Foretold forums. I'm still at that beginning stage where I'm jotting ideas down whenever and wherever they come to me. Whether it's in a notebook, on a napkin, on my hand-- everything is fair game in the beginning.
[on a side note, one of my favorite habits that I picked up from an old professor of mine is to always leave a short poem written on a cocktail napkin before leaving a restaurant or bar. a little piece of art that you will never hold onto. i sometimes wonder how many of them have been thrown out without even a glance, and how many of them have found their way into someone's life. i'll never know! it makes me tingly thinking about it haha]
Lastly, I would expect to see much more material popping up in the very near future. I'm on the cusp between collecting my millions of thoughts and ideas and actually starting to realize some of them. It's a pleasure to have someone paying attention :)

Yep, that's a very warm stage to be in. My ideas are on random sheets of paper/napkins sticking out of the composition book I happen to be writing in at the time. It's a much better method than jotting everything down in a single place--if you lose that notebook, then you lose all those ideas, too...I speak from experience ^^'.
I'm only a socially awkward teenager, so there aren't any bars I've gone to, but I like the concept. I write people birthday poems without ever typing them, so I guess it's a bit similar in that I'll probably never see those poems again, but I at least no the person looked at it. It's a nice habit, maybe I'll adopt it (not at a bar, of course) : )
I shall check for more writing in the near future, then, and I hope to keep up with your writing.; maybe I'll see your name on the NY Bestseller's list eventually (I can see it happening). Thanks for sharing your art!
