Hearts

Hearts

A Poem by Greg the Bard

Hearts

He sees a time when he believed

That a girl once wanted him as he saw her

That a dream could be so beautiful

A smile so light

She held his heart forever more

He could but stumble into faith

Her beauty shown outward

Closing his eyes to a life time passed

She knew her value to him

He would pay anything to keep her

His life was a small price to weigh

Coupled to an everlasting good

Their hands touched and embraced

As one they walked off into the future

Knowing together they could do anything

Living in each other’s heart

There’s a time in each one’s life

When void is foremost in thought

Then a strange thing happens

As if God touches our very soul

A person comes along

Bright and wondering

Hoping to meet someone to be with

A soul mate for a lifetime to come

Then the two meet

Eyes locked smiles passed

He’s not bad to look at

She’s God awful beautiful

A kind word a blush of rouge

Can I walk you home … somewhere… who cares

I just want to be close to you

Never letting go

She smiles and says…” Yes!”

Committing the corporate sin

What if I decide

He’s not my friend?

Together they move off matching each stride

He offers his coat

In an effort to keep dry

Now his name is there and she gives hers back

Something that started

So simple and thin

Now a lifetime passed

He thinks back and grins

God brought us together

That cold starry night

No man has put asunder

Our hearts so bright

On a moonlit night, on the beach, when the waves are high, it is almost possible to perceive the moon afloat and dancing on the tips of the waves. One wonders then whether the mind is playing tricks, whether it is possible to rearrange physical nature with the whim of one's will. I still wonder. Your poem brings back such wonderful memories. Thanks.
