Storm

Storm

A Poem by Greg the Bard

Storm

The summer wind felt chilled

Autumn was in the air

A strong storm was off the coast

With rain plotting its path

The shrill of children at school

Comes over the bursting gulf

A south-west blow

Was north bound

Carrying a wet smell

Mothers saw to their clothes lines

Hurrying to make short work

Of a long days’ wash

The dark of cloud smothered the sun

Cooling the day

Sheets of sparks

Crossed the sky

Marked with the sound of thunder

That hushed ever the song of will

Mid-day the dark gray of cloud did spread

Wanton wonder of large droplets did fall

The trees flourished as a stiff wind shoved them about

The rain came lightly at first

Hammering the ground the grass bent low

Puddles formed quickly

Birds found what cover they could

Sitting atop the power lines for dappled warmth

Swaying as the wind got

Holding fast to the anchor made by man

The day grew darker

In the coming storm
