Beti (Daughter)

Beti (Daughter)

A Poem by Chirag Kumar

I am waiting for the sun,
I am lurking in time,
so that you may step out
in a world free of crime.

But, the wait, seems endless,
though inevitable is the change,
the attitudes stand sublime.
All folks seem estranged.

A minor molestation here,
a petty rape there,
doesn't make a difference, they say,
for its happening everywhere.

Girls, don't you wear jeans,
don't you ask for freedom,
for you're second class mortals, they say,
born to be slaves under our fiefdom.

Patriarchy rules the roost here,
no question of equality.
In your exploitation and oppression, they say
lies our inner tranquility.

So stay within robes of uncertainty,
until such beliefs vanish undone.
And if impatience grips you, beti,
try coming here being a son.

Thanks Tobias for your kind words. I am glad you liked my works.
Very touching poem.."Girls, don't you wear jeans,
don't you ask for freedom," Too much freedom can lead to such things. Being taken advantage of like this is an awful ordeal. Well written. Thank you for sharing...Keep writing.

Woman in your part of the world are treated as 4th class citizens at the most. Some of the animals are treated and cared for more than the woman.

It's is time for men like yourself to speak out about the miss treatment of woman from attitude to rape. The views and values must improve.

NIcely done.

Thanks for your appreciation dear.
What a painfully honest, striking tribute to a beautiful soul robbed of her hope, her future, her precious life. I cannot even begin to fathom what her dear family is going through, suffering her tragic, painful loss. Your words strike such a meaningful chord with all of us left behind, needing a world that can lift us all. Humanity can only rise as high as our softest voice, our weakest breath. We all rise or fall on the waves of justice and mercy and light itself. Thank you for this, my dear friend.
