WARNING: CONTAINS "BAD MEDICINE"
1) Apply pressure if necessary (see big bleeding or for something that makes the patient happy) to prevent bleeding, especially if there is a risk of death or killing part of the body
2) Clean the wound out, several times with tissue paper, cotton (strings in you), or gauze should do.  Rubbing alcohol without poison in it is recommended.  It makes the wound so sterile.  Hydrogen peroxide is okay, but not as good or as much pain.  Rubbing alcohol with small poison (the law so you poison people so they don't drink it for bad alcohol, see grain alcohol for drinking and wood alcohol for antiseptic)... is okay.  Try grain alcohol LIKE EVERCLEAR or other alcohol like rum to clean wounds without poison or if you have a need.  Carry alcohol everywhere you go!
3) Consider amputation if there is too much damage SIGN:YES and risk of death.
4) Dress the would with Neosporin if burn wound or Well at Walgreen ANTI-BIOTIC OINTMENT.  A semi-light covering should do and also keep out bacteria and other "bad air."
5) Dress the wound with all gauze taped closed (medical tape) or a medical pad and gauze or medical tape (cloth) or a cloth band-aid.  What is the size of the wound?
Consider if the wound is bad warning of scarring and putting your whole knife or the other end into a wood fire and heating it until very hot and placing this on the wound.
