PSYCHIATRIC NOTES: WHAT IS AN EMERGENCY?

I like, for counseling, the patient telling me what is an emergency, instead of me telling the patient what is not an emergency.  I went to the emergency room for extreme sleep disorder, lack of sleep.  And, I also asked about anxiety.  It appears that the rule is that they cannot treat people for either psychiatric issue.  I think this is in error.  Sleep deprivation is, from what I studied in psychology over the years, one of the most extreme psychiatric problems you can have, at times seeing things and hearing things, for example.  This could cause an accident if you are driving, and this could cause a fatal shooting error if you are handling firearms...  

On the other hand, anxiety can be debilitating at times, such as what I call general anxiety disorder.  You may have an extreme attack of anxiety, and want to leave a public or semi-public place in a hurry.  Another problem with anxiety is that I think it wears upon the human psyche, causing problems like spousal or child beatings.  As you are pressured like from a personality of the soul that does not suit you, you become more short-fused.

Finally, I note that a bad personality of the soul for you could pressure you and become a psychiatric emergency.  I have a hard time believing how few sources I could find on the soul having a personality.  Is this really such a new thought?  I did not see them before I postulated this.  But, if your personality is not you, I theorize that this causes pressure upon the psyche, perhaps adding to accidents or violence.

What is an emergency?  Perhaps, for mental health professionals including counselors, nurses, psychologists, and psychiatrists, the safest AND BEST answer is that we will see it as an emergency if you do.  However, I have found difficulties seeing a psychiatrist soon, and I hope this changes soon.  Why wait months or weeks or even days or hours to deal with a psychiatric emergency or possible emergency?  What the hell was that?
