There's Always Next Year.

There's Always Next Year.

A Poem by V.B.
"

Written for a Valentine's Day contest in 2010. I lost.

"
personally, my love,
i blame Hallmark.

if I had spent even one Valentine's Day
with my head in a book
instead of a greeting card,
i don't think we'd find ourselves
in this little predicament.

i mean, how was i to know
that they could get away
with being so grossly inaccurate
in their romanticized art
for all of these years?

so baby, I'm sorry,
but i'm a little embarrassed to admit
that i was wrong to tell my friends
you were as heartless as my last girl.

apparently i was just confused
about what i should have found
after i drained the final drops
of blood out from your corpse.

but i guess there's always next year.

This was cool. The style(atleast to my ever subjective perception) was bukowski-esque in the stylistic approach but yet it had a feel all of it's own that make it unique.

I absolutely hate movies like "the notebook" whenever i state this people always ask why. "Because they are all lies" I always reply. They give people a slanted and unrealistic view on the nature of love and connection and this is a great cause of much misery in the world.

It seems you were trying to express the same thing. You don't know how many "My ex done me wrong" poems I see on here but you put a fresh and unique spin on it. Kudos.

I can't understand why you would have lost the contest. I bet this was the most original romantic poem there.

Ha! OK, i like that. Shame it didn't hit the mark with the judges.
