A Poem by V.B.
"

As if to be read.

"
there was always something
beautifully disingenuous
in the way you would wash off
one-night-stand warpaint
with bars of soap
you stole from hotels.

I don't want to be a copout by reviewing a short poem but this one hit me like a ton of bricks. Totally reminds me of how I used to be. There is definitely a relationship between the speaker and the subject of the poem, one of both concern for their safety (maybe I read too much into that) and admiration. You realize that they have one night stands with strangers in hotels, a lot, since there are multiple bars of soap, but at the same time, this act in itself is "beautifully disingenuous".
I f*****g love this poem.
Btw, thanks for reviewing mine.

It's when writers can plant a beautifully detailed picture in your mind without saying much at all is when you know they're incredible.

Anyone who uses the word 'disingenuous' in a poem of 6 lines gets my vote.
This is a very tight verbal slap in the face.

what a snapshot!~ you've fleshed out a character in six lines~ the reader is left gazing like one before a painted masterpiece on a museum wall~

That's what I was always forgetting....the soap!

I dig the connection between the meaning to read bible pages and meaning to feel loved in one-night-stands. Maybe? I could be wrong on that connection.
