A Vanquished Requiem

A Vanquished Requiem

A Poem by aprilrayne

Crooked against the globe, a lean-to

Like the shoulder of a forlorn friend

And the shoreline of an empty sea

Stood vanquished and lonely

My pressure pushed against your tides

An even place to find relief

A thought to count on, but not for sale

I picked past your broken veil

Those eyes like absinthe bended memories

Reached far beyond

And inside, they churned and whistled
Your voice could sing a thousand tunes and yet

None were bent for me

I could listen to a hundred more

I’d be safer here than free

When burned disaster calls no more

Our dramatic exit has no floor

A distraught woman, a broken knee
A b*****d child would fail to see

Just how much frame in our destiny

And never would I question
You, with all your trickery, your false pretense

I look past all those faces and watch the skin cry

Along with all those places where we fought to lie

I still stand. I still wait. I still wonder.
When will you come back?
