When Burning Bridges Burn them BrightA Poem by aprilrayneWhen burning bridges burn them bright, Only blind should keep the past in sight, For bleak the day when doubt should rise; Temptation follows burdened eyes.
A dare to look, a dare to take, Though heaven gives, a man must make. Then look upon what wrought to fell; An empty carcass, empty shell,
And hid beneath the tindered wood A remnant of a childhood When all was good and all was laugh; (The tempest toss the better half).
I bided time like it was free 'Til the better got the best of me. Spoiled on focus, spoiled on fun, Any dark would turn to joyous sun.
I frolicked in the month of May And sprouted up in summer's day. I lazed about in calico; These hands were full of seeds to sow.
And after all that fickle play I had to learn another way. The quality of what you reap Is just the same as what you keep.
So be quick! Be fast! Be curious! For time won't wait, and like the verse, It's quick on tongue and spoiled on pen; The paper draws the upper hand.
And cheer the day when once, at last, The bridges burned will turn to grass. And thick like love that learns to trust © 2016 aprilrayne |
