“shhhh! behave yourselves!” the mother furiously whispered to her kids. she had three small kids. the eldest was around 8 and the youngest probably 5. the middle one, my favorite, was right beside me. he was covering his mouth with both hands, trying to stop himself from laughing to loudly.
we all stood up for the lord’s prayer. out of habit, i only raised my hands in front of me not sideways so i wouldn’t have to hold anybody’s hand. but then, the middle one already lifted his left hand and held onto my right hand. when i looked down at him, he was looking up at me. his eyes were reprimanding, as if telling me, we’re supposed to hold hands, you know?
i smiled at him. he smiled back.
he had just the right amount of arrogance and mischief.
that little guy would surely break a lot of hearts one day.
