for him,

for him,

A Poem by Anika

Torn between who she was

And who she was “supposed” to be

His life was a puzzle that she didn't fit in

So forever her feelings for him

Remained hidden

She wanted to get to know him and be his friend

But the days passed and she did

Nothing in the end

She thought he could never love her like other girls

In fact she thought that no one could

No one in this world

But one day the boy somehow lost his way

And guess who was there

To make it all okay

He told her he felt like he didn't belong

He didn't know that was how

She felt all along

She gave him advice and made him feel strong

And one day he was falling

It didn't take long

He noticed her flaws and fell in love with each one

His life began to get brighter

She was the sun

She felt the same for him, she had for a while

But there was always something

Hidden behind her smile

He didn't see it, love can blind you after all

But because of her secret

She didn't want him to fall

"You don't know me", she told him and ran

He stopped her, "I do, please don't go"

His persuading began

“Well, you don't know all of me", she cried

He shook his head, "well, I want to"

He sighed

She gulped, "it would scare you away"

He put his hand on her shoulder

"That’s impossible, okay?"

"Okay", she nodded and hugged him tight

He stroked her back and whispered,

"It’s alright"

The boy and the girl fit together perfectly

But he did not know

She was trapped in the wrong body

She knew telling him would scare him away

But she felt like she needed to

And would have to someday

She dialed his number, her heart beating fast

It rang fourteen times

Then he picked up at last

He answered the phone with a soft "hello?"

She took a deep breath

"There’s something you should know."

His heart rate increased, "go on" he said

The girl started crying

"I’m sorry, I should just be dead."

He was shocked at what she had said

His heart hurt at the thought

Of her being dead

"Please tell me what's wrong", he asked

But in her heart she knew

They weren’t destined to last

"Okay, I’m a girl," she said

She held back tears

"But, I was born a boy, instead"

He was silent for a few minutes

The silence felt like knives

"I don't really understand this"

"I was born in the wrong body," she sighed

The girl wished things were different

"I want to see you," he replied

The boy put his hands on his head

After the phone disconnected

He was processing everything she said

The boy and girl met at a park

He looked into her eyes

And still felt the spark

A smile, lips shut, crept onto his face

"I was a little freaked at first, I won’t lie"

"But I know I still love you, I feel it, Grace"

The girl felt overwhelmed with joy

She cried into his shoulder as he whispered,

"You’ll always be a girl, not a boy."

Be who you know you are and never who you're told to be. I know it can be hard if you were born with your family expecting you to be someone you're not. But you got to know that there are so many people who will love you for who you are, and will encourage you to be that person. Forget what the judgmental people think about you. They just aren't capable of understanding, or they were taught false beliefs. It's not always their fault. But they don't matter in your life if they have a problem with who you are. This short story/poem was my way of showing that people who are trans are just as capable of love as any other person. They deserve love just as much as a school bus driver deserves love. Love has no rules, that's the simplicity of it.

"love has no rules" I love that!! rules are meant to be broken, that's why they are called rules instead of wise advice.:)
