Gift

Gift

A Poem by Erin Parke

I had more for you-
a gift, a world wrapped in gold
where we would spend our days.

The breeze is warm and cool at the same time-

and reminds you of a trip we might have taken. Your world

is luscious, a garden, or maybe craggy, rocky and cold.

Whichever you prefer.

There is room for all that you might bring.  Everything will fit.

And we could have spent forever there.  My hands

would have held yours as we walked down the sunny beach -

or rainy side streets - or dark alleys of your world.
I'll carry it with me in case you need it.
