Mantra of Life

Mantra of Life

A Story by Anwesh

It’s the 15th of September, round about 11:30 PM. Am sitting in front of my PC jotting down the thoughts that are encrypted deep down in my mind. But the problem is, I don’t know what am thinking. It’s like; there is a different person who is typing each word for me. Like all I am being used for is manipulation, as if am some robot being used to do some down and dirty nonsensical job, and once it’s done, I will be thrown back to where I was picked up from. So let me see, what the heavens am I typing?

Okay, I glance down and I see that I have already typed more than a hundred words which have like, absolutely no meaning and yet make complete sense to me. How many times have we questioned our own existence? Every time something goes wrong, or we do something that hurts other, we reflectively glance at our own self and wonder, “Why am I living… Do I deserve this life that am leading… What good am I doing for anyone… Am I not another burden to the world… There are so many people dying each second, then why not another one… Would hardly make any difference… It’s not like the whole world’s going to come to an end, or the whole world’s going to stop just because a worthless person like me decided to end his/her life…”

But just for a second, glance back at your own life. You are a child of your parents. They have sacrificed everything they had so that they could give you a proper life. They throttled their own dreams so that they could secure your future. They go hungry just so that you can have your stomach-fill of food. They stay up the whole night when you are ill, hoping that you can get proper rest.  Do you think they gave birth to you, brought you up in such a proper way, gave you a proper life just so that you could end your life and be called a coward?

Your friends, they have done all they could for you. They have been with you all throughout, thick and thin. They would have risked themselves by saying “Yes ma’am” for you even when you were not in the class. They would have lent you important notes which you forgot to take down just because you were trying to impress that new guy/girl sitting right next to you with your hot and happening look and cool attitude. They would have stayed up nights with you before the examination trying to figure out why on earth did someone create exams to torture students everywhere on this planet.  They would have lent you that extra five bucks which you needed to go back home just because you wasted it on some chocolate. Do you think they did all this so that one day you would selfishly end you own life without even thinking of the effect it would have on their life?

They say, you are extremely lucky if you love someone. You are even luckier if that person loves you back. But you are the luckiest if you two truly love each other with the same intensity and have mutual care and affection towards each other. That one person changed your life forever. He would wait the whole of 23 hours and 59 minutes just for that one minute when you would say “I love you” to him. He would bunk his usual round of cricket just so that he could dedicate you that extra half an hour that would make you feel really special. He would stay up nights with you; keep talking to you even if he would have school the next day just so that you didn’t feel lonely. He would change his study timing just so that he could make you feel loved. He would crack silly jokes and act like a joker so that you would laugh your tears off. He would write stuff for you, just so that you would realize how much you mean to him. But, you don’t realize that. All you tell him is, “Please leave me alone. I want to go away. I wanna die. I have made you cry so many times. I just don’t deserve you.” But do you ever realize how many more tears you are going to gift him with your death? Ever realized that one mistake on your part could shatter him from within?

It’s easy to say that I don’t want to live, but it’s very tough to say, I want to live. Don’t be a coward just because situations don’t go according to you. You have to be strong, learn to accept failures and turn them into successful milestones.

Make you parents proud by getting that coveted Best Student of the Year award. Bring a smile on the faces of your friends by giving them the support when they need it, by saying a mere “Thank You” from your heart when they do something special for you. Learn to appreciate the love that someone has for you, the way he loves you, because they say that you get true love only once. Learn to value that love, and cherish the fact that your God has given you this precious gift. Maybe you don’t realize it, but if you die, it does mean a lot. There are a hundred lives related to yours. Learn to think about others, and act selflessly for once.

And above all, learn to smile when things don’t go your way. When trouble comes your way, don’t say, “Why me?”, but learn to say, “Oh yes! Am so glad I can prove myself again.”

simple as it seems... par hota nhi hey.... it isn't easy to keep smiling and keep rocking... but then... faking smiles...and taking stones is what life gives you... so i don't think the mantra is actually applicable when all you get is people cheating and faking....

btw... i would have my mantra borrowed from one of your friends... MAKE LOVE..NOT WAR.... :p
