Poison Rainbows

Poison Rainbows

A Poem by Anthony J
"

for the albatrosses of Midway Atoll

"
We fastened poison rainbows to the stomachs of the birds,
twisted vibrant plastics together
into deathly braids
and force-fed friendly beaks with our shameful leftovers.
We Opened Happiness into their digestive tracts.
They asked us politely not to choke them with our shoelaces,
but we Just Did It anyway.
And it Energized, so we Kept Going.
Our slogans transformed into formless suffocation.
And still they die and we kill still,
but their deathnoise is muffled now.
And we hear nothing
over the screaming neon
of industry.

This makes me angry.. The same mindset (on a different topic) is what made me go vegan. This is a topic that is rarely touched on, I wish that it was. I'm glad that the Midway Atoll issue inspired this, I hope people that see it can take something away from it as much as I did! Beautifully written as usual ~

Thanks for the review! It came from an angry place so I'm glad that it read that way.
