A Vision in a Funhouse Mirror

A Vision in a Funhouse Mirror

A Poem by Anthony J

There were specks of spacetime sprinkled on your lips like confectioner’s sugar.

The perfectionist in me said wipe them off,

but then you kissed me and I saw tomorrow’s sunset.

We were picnicking in front of it during a wicked storm.

The lightning was styling our hair all staticky with a broken comb,

and the thunder was singing a katy perry song into a hairbrush over the ocean mirror.

With your hair flying out, your head looked like a porcupine.

There was hurricane grade wind, which made movement a challenge

and the rain was so huge that it might have been air.

Then the sun set and we were back in your room in our today.

Your face turned away, away, away.

I thought about singing katy perry songs

goofy-toothed in your mirror,

but instead I smoothed my hair, looked at the floor

and slowly noticed that your room was filled with water.

That explains your scuba gear.

It only took your kiss to drown me.

It gave me a reason to stop holding my breath.
