My One Companion

My One Companion

A Poem by Mbali
"

Daughter of wilderness, my one companion is alone

"

Daughter of emptiness

Survived into wilderness

No one was there for me

To Comfort and care for me

Never dreamed there is love

No tender arms to hold me

I've always known

My heart was alone

It bleeds on its own

I praise my loneliness

And learn to be lonely

I learn to be my one companion

The walking darkness

With spirits I always dwell

God is all I own

Angels witness my mourn

Stars follow me with the moon

Birds sing the songs for me

Awaken me when down the hill

I have always known alone

My soul will praise the morning

When scary darkness is gone

I have learned to be alone

I learn to be my one companion

Alone under the big tower I stay

All afternoon staring up there

I hear the ticking of the clock

And wonder where I will be tonight

Alone in the bush or along the road

As the darkness approaches I run

I pray for no rain

I cry for no snow

I beg for food and go

Alone I learn to be

With love or without on me

I learn to love

I learn to fight

I have learned to be alone

I learn to be my one companion
