mother earth

mother earth

A Poem by anothermaleid

More than a million years

Yes, I’ve been around that long

Things then were different though

You weren’t around.

I’ve fed your forefathers

Bathed them too

I’ve taken your s**t (literally)

And been peed upon too

That however, is not a concern

There’s other things, that make me burn.

My soil’s already rancid,

My water’s getting putrid,

My air is close to being as pungent as hell,

No, nothing is swell.

My mountains, blown to bits,

My forests, indiscriminately cut,

My other children, the birds, the fish, living in fear,

All seemingly fading away, all I hold dear.

More than a million years ago

A bet with the Sun I placed

He would burn out before me

I’d told him, that much I would see.

Little did I know then,

That this day I’d witness now,

My children, who’ve called me mother,

Raping me over and over again.

I like the message to this piece. I think the flow could be cleaned up and the last stanza's rhyming scheme should be fixed, but other than that, I loved the piece. As I read this, I envisioned how sad the earth must be to have watched everything she breathed life into being spat upon by the ones who should feel lucky enough to even be allowed to walk upon the soil.

Thank you!
