Read Between the Lines

Read Between the Lines

A Poem by Elle Thompson

I said “I miss you”

and I know

you think I meant physically

but what I really meant was

I need you

This is killing me

I don’t understand you

Answer me

I’m scared

I feel so empty

And alone

Sorry about this.”

haha those tags always throw me off too. Not sure if anyone even searches with tags on here anyhow.

Anywho, this is quite clever on a few levels. One, it rhymes. Two, the red outlining "I miss you" contained even within the rhyme. 3. The content itself doesn't seem distorted given the format.

This very much fits into the "confessional" Plathian genre.

Though Plath did use imagery. Like a Prof once told me "one image per stanza".

But he was an old codger lol Good stuff.
