Because I am

Because I am

A Poem by Elle Thompson
"

This is a poem exploring absolutes and opposites, I guess.

"
Because I am weak I will work that much harder.
Because I am small I refuse to be stepped on.
Because I hate myself I fell in love with you.
Because I need sleep I will stay up and cry.
Because I am young I will read 'til I'm wise.
Because I am lonely I will stick by you.
Because I love silence I cherish music.
Because I am quiet I will speak up.

I found this on the floor a few minutes ago and it impressed me for some reason. I wrote it for a creative writing class but I hated the direction it was going in so much that I didn't even finish it. One of those list poems I always write when I free write poetry, feel free to find it vapid and call it a waste of time. I rearranged the lines a little, since they were just a purposeless lump before.

Great thoughts on absolutes and opposites.
I can see your determination to overcome obstacles that may be encountered in your life.
Besides, your coping strategies for survival may also be perceived here.
Nice write though gathered from the floor and finished perfectly for the readers of WC

I really wonder what the original was. The mind has this way of releasing the things it wants said in the order the writer CAN release them - and yet the hardest isn't always the last but the tension does build as the words flow. Usually we awake to what we say at some point during "freefall" and if we deem it too open the last bits are visibly/audibly real but less telling.

I don't think self analysis is ever a purposeless lump.I am always intrigued how other writers and artists see themselves...what kinda mirrors they hold....for mirrors are enchanted creatures and only we know the truth:)
