sound of voidness

A Story by anny walnuts
"

In the midst of the night, when streets are quite ,when there is no companion to walk beside you....where alien creatures come to life, searching for their prey in the jet blackness...

"
Rachel was sure she was being followed. She kept glancing back over her shoulders. In the darkness, it was hard to make out if anything was following her. Or rather "anyone"...
She tried hard to brush off the feelings creeping in her heart- that of an unearthly existence. She clasped onto the holy cross hanging on her collarbone. Then, just as she made haste to reach her street her heart skipped a beat. she could feel it. It wanted her to stay there, fixed to the barren ground...with every passing moment, she could feel her hands growing numb with the coldness, and tighter her clasp grew on the cross and in a desperate attempt to calm her throbbing heart, she started chanting the name of god...she took slow and measured steps.
And almost shreiked when It started movement again...as if trying to match up her pace. She started running as fast as she could, home being the sole object of her destiny. It began taking longer strides, she could sense it. She started sobbing, consoling herself that home was only a few steps away now- only a matter of few seconds and she would be in her safe haven..away, far away from this eerie follower.
As she crossed the entrance of the compound gate, she could hear the faint ringing of a tiny bell growing nearer and nearer. Then, it dawned upon her! She felt an instant rush of relief splurge through her insides : it was her kitten, frieda who had been faithfully following her master all this while...
