Somebody Like MeA Poem by Annie RacheleThis is a poem about two people with a similar deformity with their face. They both want to be accepted, but it is not easy.
Everyday she looked out her window
But everyday her heart filled with despair Would she ever find someone like her? Each chance he looked down on the street But each chance was nothing more than a disappointment Would he ever find someone like him? She would hide her face from the world Deformity was not embraced by everyone else So she looked and waited out her window for someone just like her He wouldn't leave his house It was a risk set up for defeat Yet he never stopped staring at the street for someone just like him One day she decided looking out a window was not enough She left, her home, her sanctuary.....her hiding spot Only to get terrified looks and unwelcome glances Finally he got enough courage to go outside He shook with every step, but did not make it far People whispered and some even laughed She did not make it back to her lonely home Not without running straight into a boy on the street Her head was down and she made a quick apology He ran as fast as his legs would take him But knocked down a girl, who apologized although it was not her fault She got up to leave but he begged her to wait The boy asked her to wait, and politely she did Then he took her chin and held it up But he did not look frightened or bitter The girl stopped and he took a step closer He saw her face and could not help but stare Finally he had found someone just like him She looked into his face and smiled as best she could A tear rolled down her face and she wiped it from her cheek She had finally found someone just like her They were both abnormal, some people would even say mistakes But to each other they were perfect And both the girl and the boy found the one feeling they never had before....acceptance.
