Chapter six

I gave birth to a girl, and named her Laura. I live in the Enclosure. I found my Mum there. We are being tested on, investigated. Three years back, when Laura was 10, I managed to get her out. I hope she survives. I have been here for nearly fourteen years now, and I’m used to everything. Apart from one thing:

 

Finn never came.

 

He never came back. Never came to find me like he promised.

 

I destroyed the ring. I stuffed it in the fire that cooks our food. Emleh got transported here as well, so we are back together. I’m nearly twenty-eight. Finn never came, and I’ll never forgive him. Not any more.

 

But that’s only because I love him.
